Academic Scholars needs a higher weighted core-course GPA, a higher test score, and more service hours than Medallion Scholars; Gold Seal Vocational/CAPE has its own career-education course and GPA requirements plus a different test option. All three require Florida residency, a standard diploma, and the FFAA filed by the deadline. This is not a guarantee of an award — confirm on the OSFA chart and with the school counselor.

Florida now lets volunteer service hours, paid work hours, or a combination of both count toward the requirement, and hours must be documented and approved through the district's process. Hours can start as early as 9th grade, and some districts count the summer before. The exact number needed differs by award, so check the FDOE Bright Futures service/work source and confirm the district's documentation process with the counselor.
The FFAA (Florida Financial Aid Application) is the one form used for Bright Futures and state grants like the Florida Student Assistance Grant. It's typically due by the student's senior-year deadline, often August 31 after graduation, but you should check the current date since deadlines are set by the state. The student also needs to be evaluated by the high school; home-education and private-school students have their own evaluation routes.
